A Review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 — Bigger, Better, Faster

After much anticipation, Samsung announced last week the release of its newest flagship device, the Galaxy Note 9. Our EVP of Digital Turbine Media was able to attend the event and said the new features are a definite step-up from prior versions — more memory, battery doesn’t explode, and an S pen that’s like a magic wand. It’s a mobile marketers dream to preload their app on this kickass phone.

While the Note 9 may look similar to last year’s model, it boasts an impressive array of new and exciting features:

Better PerformanceThe Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core chipset is approximately 20% faster and 30% more efficient than previous models of the Galaxy Note phones. Furthermore, the Note 9 features the ability to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM and features a water carbon cooling system that Samsung says will reduce performance throttling under periods of extended load. Overall the Note 9 should run smoother and faster than previous models.

Bigger battery & storageThe battery is a big upgrade - the Note 9 features 4,000mAh of juice—700mAh over the previous models. Samsung promises all day battery life, even going so far as to say multi-day use from a single charge is possible. The base model comes with 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM and upgraded models give even more expanded storage space. The Note 9 also comes with an expandable microSD card slot, which means you can theoretically have up to 1TB of storage on your phone.

Bluetooth Enabled S PenThis is a very cool new feature that is a pretty impressive upgrade. The S Pen on the Note 9 will now extend beyond your phone’s screen. The S Pen has Bluetooth Low Energy built in and can act as a remote control from up to 30 feet away. This means you can use the S Pen to snap a photo, play a video (or pause it), scroll through images in your photo gallery, and more. Samsung says it takes less than a minute to charge once placed back in to the phone, so battery life should not be a concern.

Enhanced CameraThe camera on the Note 9 has some enhanced features, but the most impressive is the dual aperture camera which allows for more light to enter the lens making dark shots salvageable. The Note 9 camera also features some pretty cool artificial intelligence features that set it apart from other smartphones. The Scene Optimizer adjusts color tones, saturation, white balance & other characteristics based on the subject of your photo (think food, portraits, animals, nature, etc). The last notable feature is Flaw Detection – the app will give you a popup notification if it believes something went wrong, like someone blinked or if the photo is blurry.Keep in mind, these are just the most notable & new features. The Note 9 has all of the great features and functionalities you expect out of a Samsung device.

Available in stores August 24thThe Note 9 is being heavily promoted across all available carriers, making it a great opportunity for advertisers to engage new users utilizing Digital Turbine’s Mobile Delivery Platform. If you are a brand interested in preloading your app on the Note 9, click here.
